Statement of Purpose

At Central Texas College, the goal of DSS is to provide reasonable accommodations and services to students with disabilities, while maintaining compliance with current requirements in with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amended Act (ADA) in order to ensure that no student who is a qualified individual with a disability is:

  1. Unreasonably excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of services, programs, or activities at this institution
  2. Subjected to discrimination by the college or its personnel.

We are a place where students with disabilities can register and receive reasonable accommodations based on ADA and Section 504.

*The federal Office of Civil Rights has concluded that “it stands to reason that if the student objects to, refuses offer of accommodations, or denies the need for accommodations, the institution is not obligated to act on parent’s assertions of student’s needs (Northwestern Michigan College No. 15-02-2047 OCR 02/10/2003). OCR has ruled that students are to initiate the process, be active participants in the accommodation process and have direct interaction/contact with the DSS Coordinator.
