Reduced Course Load Policy

DSS reviews requests for a reduced course load as academic accommodation for students with qualifying disabilities on a case by case basis. A reduced course load accommodation may allow students to enroll in less than full-time (12 credit hours) while maintaining full-time student status. However, it is important to note that taking less than 12 hours may impact a student’s eligibility with financial aid, scholarships, etc. regardless of disability status. Also, the reduced course load will not allow the student to be exempt from a program or honor that requires a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment to be eligible. There may be instances where this accommodation need not be permitted to any program or activity in which the college demonstrates that a full-time enrollment of 12 credit hours or more is essential to meet the requirements for the program being pursued.
