Student Responsibilities

The owner is solely responsible for the animal's care, complying with all animal ordinances/laws, cleanliness, and control. The animal must not pose a threat, and all waste/droppings from the ESA (inside Residence Hall and outdoor areas) is required to be promptly cleaned/picked up by the owner. No excessive noise or disruptive behavior is allowed. Students will be required to sign a liability form with DSS each semester before final approval for ESA is given.

  • The College is not responsible for the animal during emergencies or at any time. Owner is responsible for and required to provide a local emergency point of contact to the Residence Hall Manager who can pick-up the ESA immediately if an emergency situation arises.
  • ESA is required to be in an animal carrier, on a leash, or under harness control when going outside.
  • ESA cannot be left alone for over an extended period of time (generally no more than 6 hours). ESA must be crated when the owner is not in the room.
  • ESA may not be left in the care of other student residents at any time. If the owner is to be absent from the residence hall overnight or longer, the ESA must accompany the owner.
  • The owner is financially responsible for any damage or bodily injury caused by the animal. Maintenance staff entry requires the owner's presence.
