DAAC-1304: Pharmacology of Substance Use Disorders

Credit Hours 3
This course provides an emphasis on the pharmacological effects of addiction, tolerance, dependence, cross addiction, drug interactions, withdrawal, and recovery; describing the psychological and physiological effects of substance use.

DAAC-1305: Co-Occurring Disorders

Credit Hours 3
Provides students with an overview of co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders and their impact on the individual, family, and community. Includes an integrated approach to address the issues accompanying co-occurring disorders.

DAAC-1311: Counseling Theories

Credit Hours 3
This course is an examination of the major theories and current treatment modalities used in the field of counseling.

DAAC-1319: Introduction to Substance Use Disorders

Credit Hours 3
An overview of causes and impacts of substance use disorders, the primary prevention, intervention, and treatment methods utilized, the major drug classifications, and the counselor’s code of ethics.

DAAC-2341: Counseling of Substance Use Disorders

Credit Hours 3
Advanced examination of knowledge, skills, attitudes, techniques, confidentiality and ethical guidelines applied in the counseling, treatment, prevention, and recovery of substance use disorders.

DAAC-2354: Dynamics of Group Counseling

Credit Hours 3
Differentiate types of groups; describe the basic stages of the group process; demonstrate group management skills; document client progress; and identify issues of confidentiality and ethics.

DAAC-2367: Practicum - Substance Abuse/Addiction Counseling

Credit Hours 3
This advanced placement helps students gain practical experience in the discipline, enhances skills, and integrates knowledge gained from the classroom. Direct supervision at an advanced level is provided by clinical professionals at the host agency. This course is the Capstone Experience for the students exiting the program with a Certificate or Associates in Applied Science (AAS)Degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling and the Certificate in Criminal Justice Addictions.
